Employment Issues.
I got the job at Skipton Building Society; given I felt like death at the interview, this isn't bad going. Just two things have arisen from this.
One. I now have to go to the manager of a store I genuinely love working in to tell her that I am leaving, ceasing my employment there to go to a job that is much better paid and has much better security. I am not looking forward to this.
Two. I'll be working in a fucking building society. For Christ's Sake. I start on £13,100, and get 25 days paid holiday a year, amongst other niceties, which do sugar the pill.
The dilemma I'm facing, and the reason I'm so unhappy with this situation is that I absolutely love HMV. The team are good people, most of them, and it's genuinely awesome when you actually know what you're talking about with people. Plus, 30% discount. Course, they can't give me a proper full time contract, which means I get shat on currently; 9 days holiday and no pay should I take a weekday off, no big bonuses reserved for full time members... essentially, I'm getting paid a full timer's rate but getting none of the benefits like job security - a month or so back they cut my hours completely, leaving me jobless for 2 weeks and thus when I get paid in a week's time (this Friday I think) I won't even have half a full wage packet.
The flipside is Skipton. Excellent prospects, lots of benefits, excruciating boredom, office politics, sales targets. I hate sales. I know that Skipton will turn me boring again, like the Co-Op did. Plus, all the current staff there are women in their 30s, which is not at all isolating.
But hey, such is life. Course, if HMV were to offer me full time work, properly that is, then the dilemma goes away. We'll see how it goes.
