La La La
Before anyone starts, shut up. I know that it must be incredibly boring for you to sit here and read about the various new reasons in which I dislike my employment. The management, by way of a disclaimer, reserves the right to call you an idiot for continuing to be put through such dire readings, and suggest that should you find the subject material repetitive, monotone, offensive or ridiculous, you should kindly fuck off.
Anyway, it’s not going to be a major rant anyway. I just found out that my trip to Skipton (next Monday) will see me staying in a hotel. Which would be nice (I was quite looking forward to the comics time to be honest) if not for the fact that I will have to be sharing a room with another trainee. I didn’t actually think that this could get any worse, but having to share a room with some bloke I don’t know makes me almost nauseous. Hopefully it won’t be that bad.
It might be some human who is quiet, won’t talk, won’t go out partying and wake me up at 2. But it also might be some human who does all that. I mean, I know it’s more cost effective and “encourages teamwork” or whatever bollocks they want you to believe, but seriously. I don’t like most human beings anyway. Just because they work for the company doesn’t mean we’ll get on. And I’ll be damned if I’m not doing comics.
This fucking place. Anyway, this isn’t what I wanted to talk about at all, really. Comics, people.
Dead Ends is – so far – going well. I’m admittedly getting distracted a lot and ending up not doing one strip in an entire week, but once finished I’m actually proud of the strips. To whet your collective appetite, the comics are usually 3 x 3 panels, A4 size, in full colour. I’ve tried to go all out here, with background detail being the best I’ve done (if you remember in TraGic it was just a line to separate floor and sky) – and I’ve been playing around with camera angles and stuff. I like writing the characters and the storylines behind them.
The site will be going live by the end of next week, and the first comic is to be posted as of the 5th of November. I’ll be setting up a MySpace account for the site so as to attract new readers, and perhaps throwing in a little bonus for people who choose to be a friend of mine on the site. The voting system will be back on, and this time I’ll be giving people incentives for voting, such as sketches, script ideas or sneak previews of the following strip. I want to take Dead Ends as far as it will go which, judging by comics such as Questionable Content, could be indefinitely. Which would be nice. Not getting ahead of myself too much, but I’d like this to become my career.
Of course, until that point, the strips will be posted on the site every Monday and Thursday, thus giving me days in the interim to get the new ones done. I’ve been working on them since I first ended TraGic and, on estimation, each one takes around 2 days to do from blank sheet to coloured jpeg.
Anyway, I suppose I’d better get back to work. Stay in school, kids. And don’t do drugs.
